Whitaker and Mapplebeck (Cycles) ltd have been established for 61 years.  Started by Johnny Mapplebeck and Geoff Whitaker after the Second World War in 1946, who were looking to develop a business in their favourite hobby, cycling.

They found premises on Ingleby Road and developed a thriving business specialising in making their own Pennine framesets.  Geoff eventually left the business to pursue other interests leaving Johnny as the sole owner.

In 1994 the shop re-located to the current address on Thornton Road, where Johnny continued to work in the shop which was then run by Paul Corcoran.  Aged 80 Johnny retired and moved to Canada to live with his daughter, where he still rides his Pennine bikes today.

Pennine Cycles is now owned and run by Paul Corcoran and is still providing quality products and first class service.
