Club Riding Etiquette

Comments

To ensure that a good time is had by all members on Sunday Club rides please take not of the follow recommendations:

Make sure your bike is in road worthy condition.

Come prepared with all the kit required for a day out on the bike i.e. spare inner tubes, pump, tools, mobile telephone, money, energy bars and gels etc.

Wear Club kit - Traffic will respond better to those that look the part!

Ride at a pace that is suitable for everyone in the group - There are no prizes for leaving people behind!

Try to take regular turns on the front of the group - Don't just let the 'stronger' riders share ALL the workload.

Abide by the Highway Code at ALL times - i.e. don't go through red lights, it gives cyclists a bad name!

In winter use mudguards - Those behind don't appreciate a face full of mud and grime!

Be aware what is happening behind and thus not letting any large gaps develop within the group. (Especially when going into the wind or on long drags).

Avoid 'Half Wheeling' - This is frustrating and dangerous!

Avoid the habitual 'Riding off from the front' - It alienates Club mates!

It is recommended that all members take out their own Third Party Insurance, via the CTC or British Cycling, or similar organisations. Your existing house insurance MAY give you the required cover, but please do read the small print very carefully.
